Derek Kopon is an astrophysicist and engineer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and holds degrees in the fields of physics, astronomy, and engineering.
He first lived in Cambridge from 2002-2007, moving away to continue his education.
He moved back to Cambridge in 2015, purchasing his home in July.

for the past 10 years, we have been living through the most extreme global experiment in central bank monetary policy in the history of civilization
And I see patterns that are very concerning to me: I see candidates taking money from corporations that are outside of Cambridge and then requesting zoning relief, I see cannabis companies trying to put recreational cannabis stores very close to schools, right near residential neighborhoods, right next to daycare centers, and then I see city councilors who are accepting money form cannabis lawyers, voting for zoning that decreases the buffer zone to those schools.
I think all of us should be very concerned that our government is not representing the interests of the residents of this city.
And I believe that all of these big developments, the ones out by Alewife, the big ones in Kendall Square, they should all have solar energy on the top and they should all be net-zero.
