She/Her
Carrie Pasquarello worked for the U.S. State Department before she co-founded a personal security consulting agency. There, she advises individuals and companies, and writes content about protecting yourself, your family, and your valuables during international travel. She has also written a book along those lines, Study Abroad Safety: A Parent's Guide to Sending Your Child Abroad.
She is one of the two candidates in 2023's race that has come under scrutiny for liking, engaging with, and reposting far-right, transphobic, racist, anti-immigrant, and Islamophobic content. While she has recently deleted some of those, such as her retweet of a "neo-aryan", she's left up likes accusing LGBT Teachers of grooming, questioning who is a woman, blaming violence on migrants and "Islamized France", as well as responses to tweets about "The war on Whites".
She also has a history of interacting with or reposting tweets about violence against people, especially children, teens and women, including calls to have them arm themselves, and uses the hashtag "#CrimeSurge", stating that (violent) crime is out of control. She also frequently likes and retweets about police, police officers, violence against them, and their anger at being reported on for violence against the Black Lives Matter movement, even when the pro-police/anti-BLM tweet is from the fake news site The Gateway Pundit.
She follows, responds, and retweets Amy Mek, who has been accused of spreading Islamophobia for years, right-wing author Andy Ngô, and hundreds of other, smaller MAGA accounts.
Carrie also has a youtube channel/podcast, where she's interviewed now-former Massachusetts Sheriff Tom Hodgson, who, in addition to inciting many controversies in Massachusetts, is on a board that the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as a hate group. She introduces him as "an amazing man who is on the front line every day trying to make this world a better place".
Carrie is one of two candidates in 2023's race who has previously voted in Republican primary elections.
She cites "the rise in crime" as well as opposition to the Cycle Safety Ordinance (CSO), the Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance (BEUDO), and the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO) as reasons for running.
In general, Carrie's housing position is "no". She opposes the expansion of the Affordable Housing Overlay, opposes parking removal, and indicated in the Cambridge Citizens Coalition survey that she thinks there should be more prioritization of historic building reuse.
I have spoken with members of the community who are deeply worried about the proposed new building heights, setbacks, and sizes. Zoning should be a part of a comprehensive plan to safeguard our environment and green spaces, while also preserving the character of our neighborhoods, squares, and historical landmarks.

Why don't you propose something that will actually reduce crime? Like if you use a gun in the commission of a crime you go to jail for 20 years. You would see how fast gun crimes would be reduced. Stop catering to the criminals and do something to make citizens safe.
When you protect our police, you protect our communities.
Most disappointing was passing the [Cycling Safety Ordinance] with little community collaboration to identify a strategy to prevent harm to small businesses and neighborhoods. I was also disappointed that with the uptick in crime, there weren’t more public safety meetings to develop strategies to reduce crime and make Cambridge a safer place to live and work.
As a small business owner, I understand the importance of making sure customers can find parking.
I am writing as a concerned resident that has resided in the city of Cambridge, on Upland Road for 64 years. Rarely have I seen a project such as the Mass Ave/Transportation proposals, which have cost taxpayers probably close to 1,000,000.00 in planning and consulting costs, be conducted in such a vacuum and with complete lack of transparency. Having worked in Senior Executive levels of both Federal and Municipal government, the approach the city has taken is clear that the process was to approve first, then hope for the best when it cam time for community feedback and implementation.
What do I use to base my opinion??? Economic impact study, Business owner input, Neighborhood input, Impact study on the outliers impacted by the changes in traffic flow, especially with the design plan for Upland Road and one way access.
...
I am also really quite concerned that the public forum does not require individuals to either register prior to the discussion, and verification of their city affiliation (residence/work/business etc.) before allowing them an opportunity to impact the livelihood and community of those in the area impacted. I know many of the individuals from Arlington and Somerville that called in during the virtual meetings to support these changes, without any connection to the city--- except they lobbied for the Bicycle Committee.
She said that she hasn’t seen “the Council really focusing on how we can reduce the violent crime in our community,” adding that she wants to expand the Cambridge Police Department’s special investigation unit and cybercrime training.
In the past week, Pasquarello has faced intense scrutiny alongside fellow Council candidate Robert Winters over a large swath of transphobic and Islamophobic social media activity that came to light.

Pasquarello wrote in a statement to The Crimson Monday that she is being targeted by political opponents and has been cyberbullied, adding that the allegations are completely false.

In an emailed statement after this article was published Monday, Pasquarello denied allegations that she is Islamophobic, transphobic, or racist. She accused political opponents of “perpetuating a false narrative” with the intent to eliminate her from the race.

On Thursday, Pasquarello deleted a tweet about a shooting in Dorchester that she had shared from an account whose name included the phrase “neo-aryan” — a retweet protesters repeatedly criticized her for Sunday.
“Once the name was brought to my attention, I dealt with it expediently. My intention is always to ensure the well-being of our community members,” she wrote in a statement.

Take Carrie Pasquarello, whom the CCC endorsed for her “international work” (it’s unclear what this work is or how it is relevant to the city). Her online presence may not be as long, but where she does show up, it’s just as vile. She’s retweeted accounts called “Neo-Aryan” and liked many anti-LGBTQ tweets and anti-Muslim tweets, interacting with many pro-Trump, far-right online users. In a city where just 6.4 percent of people voted for Trump, the CCC is glad to endorse someone who almost certainly did.

Screen captures of likes by Pasquarello, according to the images supplied by the DSA, show follows of far-right personalities such as Jack Posobiec, whom the race justice group the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as an anti-democracy activist “known primarily for creating and amplifying viral disinformation campaigns.” Other likes are for tweets by Andy Ngô and Ian Miles Cheong, who have similar reputations. A tweet of her own from June 3, 2020, warns about “The horrid situation in communities around our country” as “These Democrat-led areas are sinking into the sewer,” according to screen captures provided by the DSA – an interesting remark made by the resident of one of the richest cities in the country with some of the highest real estate costs, but where 91 percent of voters chose Joe Biden in the 2020 election and only 6 percent chose Donald Trump.

Wrong change back: When paying you will have to be on top of calculating your purchase. Shop keepers, street venders and restaurant employees have been known to give less change back. This is easy money. Their perception, especially of Americans, is that you must be so rich you don’t need to count your money, so you will not be paying attention to the amount returned.
How to Avoid This Scam: Before traveling learn about the currency and the exchange rates in the country you will be visiting and always count your change. When paying always say in a loud voice the denomination of money as you give it out.
